COLLECTION:
The State Library is the oldest Foundation Center Cooperating Collection in New Jersey. The Foundation Center, located in New York City, publishes many of the directories the State Library collects. These books, as well as those by a variety of other publishers, describe the grantmaking activities of private and corporate foundations.  There are also circulating books on fundraising,  proposal writing, special events, nonprofit management and working with volunteers.  In addition, there are materials on other funding sources: government agencies, professional groups and individuals.  The State Library provides onsite public access to a variety of electronic resources of particular interest to grantseekers.  Further information is available about web-based electronic resources.  In addition, there is a collection of annual reports from New Jersey foundations, and out-of-state foundations. There is also a small collection of philanthropy-related periodicals:  The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Foundation News & Commentary, Grassroots Fundraising Journal, and The NonProfit Times.  The State Library has a historical collection of New Jersey private foundation IRS 990PF forms on aperture cards for the following years: 1978 - 1998.  (Current private foundation 990 PF forms may be retrieved from the Foundation Center's 990 Finder: http://foundationcenter.org/findfunders/990finder ).

SERVICES:

The Reference Services staff provides reference services for the Funding Information Center, assisting state government, libraries and the general public. We welcome visits, mail, email and telephone requests; however, users must do their own research to find prospective grant sources. Author, title and subject access to materials is available in the Library's online catalog.

Microfiche reader/printers are available, as are coin operated photocopy machines and public access computers.
