Borrowing Books from our Collections:

Circulating items from our collections are available via interlibrary loan. Search our catalog to determine if the State Library owns an item you need, or to determine the extent of our holdings on a particular topic. See Does it Circulate? for more information.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL):

The State Library accepts requests via OCLC and JerseyCat, or by ALA forms emailed to lending@njstatelib.org or faxed to 609-278-2651. The Library does not accept walk-ins with interlibrary loan forms.

Photocopy Services:

New Jersey Network Libraries receive up to 50 pages free per request. Out-of-state, or non N.J. network members will be charged for the service unless they are members of MALLCO (Middle Atlantic Law Libraries Cooperating Organization), LVIS (Libraries Very Interested in Sharing) or government libraries. All such requests must be submitted via interlibrary loan. See our interlibrary loan service for libraries web page for more information.

Research:

The New Jersey State Library provides reference assistance to the libraries of New Jersey. Our law, N.J. documents, Jerseyana, U.S. documents, funding information and genealogy collections have been designated as statewide services collections. See the Collections and Services page for contact information and details about the Library's collections.

Databases:

The State Library subscribes to a number of databases specifically for the use of all citizens of the state. These databases may be accessed via JerseyClicks, by anyone with a library card from their local New Jersey public library, or the State Library.

The State Library also subscribes to many additional databases that may be used onsite by anyone who visits the library. View lists of available databases by title or subject.
