This page describes and links to electronic resources that can be accessed within the State Library, and in some cases, remotely. Some remote access resources are only available to State Library authorized users (state employees and Thomas Edison staff and students). The databases are arranged alphabetically by name. Use the links below to view specific sections of the list.

All users are expected to respect the intellectual property rights of licensed material. Failure to do so will result in loss of access.

MarciveWeb Docs: Catalog of U.S. Government Publications   remote access for authorized users
This catalog, beginning in 1976, lets you search by keyword or browse catalog entries. Search by title, author, subject, or number indexes. Includes hot links to electronic documents. For earlier indexing, consult the print counterpart of this index, Monthly Catalog of United States Government Publications, which dates from 1895.
 
MasterFILE Premier   remote access for authorized users
Provides full text for over 1,840 periodicals, some dating as far back as 1990, covering nearly all subjects including general reference, business, health, and much more.  Abstracts nearly 2,810 journals, many back to 1984.
 
MEDLINE   remote access for authorized users
Provides authoritative medical information for the health professional on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more. Created by the National Library of Medicine. Users can search abstracts from over 4,600 biomedical journals.
 
MedlinePlus   
Authoritative and current health information for the professional and the consumer. Includes information from the National Institutes of Health and other trusted sources on about 500 diseases and conditions, hospitals and physicians, a medical encyclopedia and dictionaries, health information in Spanish, extensive information on prescription and nonprescription drugs and links to thousands of clinical trials.
 
MedlinePlus: Multiple Languages   
Health information in over 40 languages.
 
Morningstar Investment Research Center   remote access for authorized users

Morningstar provides information on over 20,000 stock and mutual funds and includes industry and ETF information. Screener and portfolio tools, Morningstar ratings and independent reports are also included.

 
National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS)   
Contains summaries of over 195,000 criminal justice reports, books, articles and unpublished research.
 
National Substance Abuse Web Index - NSAWI   
Search the most authoritative web sites related to substance abuse prevention and treatment.  Includes information on illicit drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.
 
National Technical Information Service - NTIS   
Searches over 500,000 records in the NTIS collection of the last 10 years of technical publications, data files, CD-ROMs, and audiovisual materials by title.  Fee-based access to over 2 million products back to 1964 with subject, author, agency, and date indexes is also available.   Products may be ordered from NTIS.
 
National Toxicology Program   
Search NTP test results, status and reports.
 
National Trade Data Bank - NTDB   no remote access
Provides international market guides and import/export statistics. Requires username and password for access. Please see U.S. Documents Librarian.
 
New Jersey Administrative Code (NJAC)   
 A public access portal for free on-line access to the New Jersey Administrative Code.
 
New Jersey Charitable Registration Directory   
Lists all charities currently registered in New Jersey.
 
New Jersey Patent Bank   

A searchable database that allows innovators to post their New Jersey-based patents. It is designed to encourage the transfer of technology among the state’s institutions of higher education, New Jersey companies and individuals.  It can help entrepreneurs  looking to market their intellectual property and organizations that want to collaborate with the university community on a new technology.

 
New Jersey Register   
The Office of Administrative Law and LexisNexis have established a public access portal for free on-line access to the New Jersey Register. People can access the N.J. Register without registering but will need to register to get to the Administrative Code.
 
New Jersey State Business Gateway Service   
Provides access to the status and business address(es) of a registered business entity. Searchable by its current name or previous name, an alternate or fictitious name, the name of a current officer/director, or the 10-digit ID. Browsing is free, status reports incur a charge.

New York Times - Historical (1851-2006)   remote access for state employees only
The New York Times (1851-2006) offers full page and article images with searchable full text back to the first issue. The collection includes digital reproductions providing access to every page from every available issue. Coverage: Sept 18,1851-Dec 31, 2006
 
New York Times, The (1980-)   remote access for authorized users
Full text coverage from 1980 on. Included as part of the ABI/INFORM Complete database.
 
New York Times, The  (1985-)   remote access for authorized users
Full text coverage of The New York Times from January 1, 1985 to the present.
 
NewsBank   remote access for authorized users

Complete full text content of over 1,240 international and 2,000 U.S. newspapers. Covers local and regional news, including community events, schools, politics, government policies, cultural activities, local companies, state industries, and people in the community. Paid advertisements are excluded. Includes 11 New Jersey daily newspapers:

Newspaper Source   remote access for authorized users

Provides complete full text for 47 U.S. and international newspapers, including The Christian Science Monitor, USA Today, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, The Times (London) and Toronto Star. Also contains selective full text for 390 U.S. regional newspapers, including The Chicago Tribune, The Detroit Free Press and The San Jose Mercury News. Full text television & radio news transcripts are provided from CBS News, CNN, CNN International, FOX News and NPR.

 
NLM Gateway   
The NLM Gateway allows users to search in multiple retrieval systems at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). The current Gateway searches MEDLINE/PubMed, LOCATORplus, MEDLINEplus, ClinicalTrials.gov, DIRLINE, Meeting Abstracts, and HSRProj.
 
NoveList K-8 Plus   remote access for authorized users
NoveList K-8 covers fiction and nonfiction titles that are popular with young readers as well as classroom teachers.
 
NoveList Plus   remote access for authorized users
A readers advisory guide which helps readers find new fiction and nonfiction to read. It also includes recommended reading lists and book discussion guides.
 
NTIS/GPO Depository Access to Reports, Technical and Scientific (DARTS)   no remote access
The DARTS System is a product of the collaborative efforts of the National Technical Information Service (NTIS) and the Government Printing Office.The pilot program will make approximately 240,000 documents dating from 1964 to 2000 available free for viewing and provide the full text of these reports as free downloadable PDF files.  Requires username and password for access. Please see a Reference Librarian on Level 4.
