This page describes and links to electronic resources that can be accessed within the State Library, and in some cases, remotely. Some remote access resources are only available to State Library authorized users (state employees and Thomas Edison staff and students). The databases are arranged alphabetically by name. Use the links below to view specific sections of the list.

All users are expected to respect the intellectual property rights of licensed material. Failure to do so will result in loss of access.

Occupational database of skills, abilities, knowledge, work activities, and interests associated with occupations. Covers almost a thousand occupations with titles and codes based on the Standard Occupational Classification system. Includes occupational snapshots and details as well as related occupations.
 
OmniFile Full Text Select   remote access for authorized users
A multidisciplinary database providing full text articles, with their accompanying indexing and abstracts, from the following Wilson periodical databases:Art Full Text, Applied Science & Technology Full Text, Biological & Agricultural Index, Education Full Text, General Science Full Text, Humanities Full Text, Index to Legal Periodicals & Books, Library Literature & Information Science Full Text, Readers' Guide Full Text, Social Sciences Full Text, Wilson Business Full Text.  Coverage begins in 1994.

Ovid High Impact Collection - Archive   remote access for authorized users

Due to the loss of New Jersey Knowledge Initiative funding access to issues published after February 2008 is suspended.

A collection of 50 highly cited and highly ranked medical journals published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
 
Ovid Nursing Full Text Plus   remote access for authorized users
Includes 45 premier full text journals from Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW) as well as citations and abstracts from the Nursing subset of MEDLINE which covers approximately 276 nursing journals.
 
Oxford African American Studies Center   remote access for authorized users
The Oxford African American Studies Center is an authoritative and comprehensive source on the African American experience.  Core content includes Africana, Encyclopedia of African American History, 1619-1895, Black Women in America and African American National Biography.  Primary sources, images, maps, tables and charts are included.
 
Oxford English Dictionary   remote access for authorized users
A historical dictionary covering the English language from the earliest times to the present.  Entries include detailed etymologies.
 
Patent Full-Text and Bibliographic Databases   
U.S. Patent and Trademark databases covering patents from January 1, 1976 to the most recent weekly issue. Searchable by key word, patent number, and classification.
 
PDQ: Physician Data Query   
PDQ contains the latest information about cancer treatment, screening, diagnosis and clinical trials. Information is categorized according to type of cancer and audience (patient or health care professional). The database is updated monthly.
 
PILOTS Database   
PILOTS is a cross-disciplinary, multi-lingual index to worldwide literature on post-traumatic stress disorder.
 
Points of View Reference Center   remote access for authorized users
Designed to assist researchers in understanding the full scope of controversial subjects. High school and undergraduate students can use Points of View as a guide to debate, developing arguments and writing position papers.
 
POPLINE   
Provides worldwide coverage of population, family planning, and related health issues.  Coverage: 1970 to the present with selected citations dating back to 1886.
 
Primary Search (Searchasaurus)    remote access for authorized users
Provides full text for over 70 children's magazines and over 300 children's pamphlets, designed for the elementary school student.
 
Professional Boards and Advisory Committees   
Links to the boards and committees licensing professions and occupations in New Jersey.
 
Professional Development Collection   remote access for authorized users
The most comprehensive collection of full text education journals in the world. It provides a highly specialized collection of 520 education journals, including nearly 350 peer-reviewed titles and more than 200 educational reports.
 
PsycINFO   remote access for authorized users
Produced by the American Psychological Association, the database is the preeminent source of the literature of psychology. Indexing and abstracting is provided for literature published in over 45 countries and in more than 30 languages. Publications include journal articles, dissertations, books, book chapters, reports and other document types. Coverage: 1887 to present.
 
PubMed   
Provides access to MEDLINE, the National Library of Medicine's premier bibliographic database covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the pre-clinical sciences. MEDLINE contains bibliographic citations and author abstracts from more than 4,800 biomedical journals published in the United States and 70 other countries with links to participating online journals. The file dates from 1966 to the present. Also provides access to OLDMEDLINE, which includes citations to articles from international biomedical journals from 1949 through 1965.
 
Readers' Guide Retrospective   remote access for authorized users
Produced by The H. W. Wilson Company, this database contains comprehensive indexing of the most popular general interest periodicals published in the United States and reflects the history of 20th century America. The complete database covers the years 1890 through 1982.
 
ReferenceUSA: Business

This database provides detailed information on 1.3 million Canadian businesses, and allows searching by name, type of business, location, size, headquarters, branch, ticker symbol, stock exchange, title of executive, etc.

A database of over 120 million U.S. households.  Searchable by name, phone number, address, city, zip code, state, county, MSA and area code.
 
Regional Business News   remote access for authorized users

Provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications, incorporating coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States.
