This page describes and links to electronic resources that can be accessed within the State Library, and in some cases, remotely. Some remote access resources are only available to State Library authorized users (state employees and Thomas Edison staff and students). The databases are arranged alphabetically by name. Use the links below to view specific sections of the list.

All users are expected to respect the intellectual property rights of licensed material. Failure to do so will result in loss of access.

Salud en Espanol   remote access for authorized users
Provides evidence-based reports and fact sheets in Spanish on all aspects of consumer health and wellness.
 
Sanborn Maps - New Jersey   remote access for authorized users

This digital collection of Sanborn maps charts the growth and development of New Jersey's towns and cities during the period 1867-1970.  They are large-scale plans drawn at a scale of 50 feet to an inch.  The maps list street blocks and numbers.

 
Science Reference Center   remote access for authorized users
A research database that contains full text for nearly 640 science encyclopedias, reference books and periodicals. Topics covered include: biology, chemistry, earth & space science, environmental science, health & medicine, history of science, life science, physics, science & society, science as inquiry, scientists, technology and wildlife.
 
Serials Directory   remote access for authorized users
Provides up-to-date and accurate bibliographic information and pricing for over 155,000 U.S. and international periodicals.
 
Smoking & Health Resource Library   
This database contains abstracts of articles from medical and professional journals; books and book chapters; dissertations; reports; conference proceedings and papers; government documents from federal, state, local, and foreign entities; fact sheets and policy documents from U.S. and international nonprofit organizations.
 
Social Work Abstracts Plus   remote access for authorized users
Produced by the the National Association of Social Workers. Contains information on the fields of social work and human services, providing indexing and abstracting of over 450 journals. Also includes the Register of Clinical Social Workers. Coverage 1977 to present.
 
SocINDEX with Full Text   remote access for authorized users
A comprehensive sociology research database containing abstracts for over 620 core coverage journals dating back to 1895, data from over 500 priority coverage journals and over 1,390 selective coverage journals. Full text is available for over 300 journals. Extensive indexing for books, monographs and conference papers is also included.
 
Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics Online   
Compiled annually with ongoing updates.  Presents data on criminal justice systems, offenses, persons arrested and or convicted, and judicial processing.

Star-Ledger, The (Newark, NJ) (May 1989-)   no remote access
Searchable full text from May 1989 on.  Covers Essex and other North Jersey counties. 
 
STAT-USA Internet   no remote access
Three part database which includes State of the Nation providing current and historical economic and financial releases and economic data covering the United States' domestic economy.  Globus & NTDB offers current and historical international trade leads and provides international market guides and selected import/export statistics. USA Trade Online provides current U. S. export and import statistics by commodity. Requires username and password for access. Please see U.S. Documents Librarian.
 
State Capital Universe   remote access for authorized users
Comprehensive information on one state or any combination of states. Includes bills, laws, constitutions, regulations, legislatures, public policy analysis, newspapers of record. Full text current access and links to related sites.
 
State of the Nation   no remote access
Provides current and historical economic and financial releases and economic data covering the United States' domestic economy.  Requires username and password for access.  Please see U.S. Documents Librarian.
 
Statistical Universe   remote access for authorized users
Three databases in one; they can be searched jointly or individually. ASI, American Statistics Index, abstracts and indexes federal statistical publications back to 1973, and includes full text access. It also includes Power Tables providing quick access to statistical data. SRI, Statistical Reference Index, covers significant statistical publications of over 1,000 private and state government agencies back to 1980. IIS, Index to International Statistics, covers international and intergovernmental publications from 1983 on. The latter two do not provide full text access.
 
Student Research Center   remote access for authorized users
Provides full text for nearly 110 magazines covering general topics appropriate for middle and jr. high school students.
 
Substance Abuse Information Database - SAID   
Provided by the Department of Labor this database provides access to summaries and full text of materials relating to workplace substance abuse issues.
 
Teacher Reference Center   

Indexes over 270 titles from the most popular teacher and administrator trade journals, periodicals, and books. This database provides coverage on key education topics such as assessment, continuing education, current pedagogical research, curriculum development, instructional media, language arts, literacy standards, science & mathematics, and more.

 
THOMAS: Legislative Information on the Internet   
A comprehensive source of legislative information for the United States, including bills, laws, committee reports, the Congressional Record, roll call votes and historic documents.
 
ThomasNet   
Online access to over 67,000 product categories and 650,000 suppliers. Includes company profiles and links to online catalogs and supplier web sites.
 
Times of Trenton, The (1993-)   no remote access
Searchable full text from 1993 on.  Covers Mercer and Burlington counties. 
 
Today's Science   remote access for authorized users
Presents the latest scientific discoveries and underlying concepts in language for the lay person.
 
TOPICsearch   remote access for authorized users
A current events database covering social, political & economic issues, scientific discoveries and other popular topics discussed in today's classrooms. TOPICsearch contains full text for over 64,000 articles from more than 3,000 diverse sources, including more than 1,500 full text periodicals.
 
Toxics Release Inventory (TRI)   
Annual environmental releases of over 600 toxic chemicals by U.S. facilities. Covers 1987 on.
 
Toxnet   
A collection of databases on toxicology, hazardous chemicals, and related areas.  Includes HSDB, IRIS, ITER, CCRIS, GENE-TOX, TOXLINE, EMIC, DART/ETIC, TRI, and ChemIDplus.
 
Trademarks   
Includes TESS, the Trademark Electronic Searching System covering trademarks registered, pending, and dead. Currency varies; searchable by keyword, categories, assignments, dates, and more.
 
TRIS Online   
The Transportation Research Information Services (TRIS) database is the most comprehensive bibliographic resource on transportation information.
