Energy Management Strategies in Public Libraries This handbook is intended as a guide to librarians, building managers, and others concerned with reducing energy use and peak electric power demand in public library buildings. The manual provides a technical overview of each topic, basic definitions of energy and power use, and is a primer for the reader without technical background in the field. It provides strategies which range from simple to complex and inexpensive to costly, for both new construction and renovation of existing facilities. The manual provides a checklist of the most cost effective energy management approaches for new construction. Subsequent sections provide a summary of the most effective strategies to improve the energy performance of the building for lighting, HVAC, the building envelope, hot water systems, and electrical systems. This publication was supported by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian. It was written by Edward M. Dean, AIA, with technical assistance of Arup Group, Ltd. Energy Management Strategies in Public Libraries is the first Libris Design monograph. The price of Energy Management Strategies in Public Libraries is $35.00 per copy plus $5.00 shipping and handling. Checks should be made payable to the City of Cerritos.
