Through a partnership with Free Comic Book Day, The New Jersey State Library and INFOLINK are working with youth service librarians to conduct a statewide public awareness campaign this spring. The campaign will include the release the Super Librarian Comic Book in conjunction with the partnership with the nationally advertised Free Comic Book Day on May 5.
Local libraries are invited to have their teens plan events that will highlight how their libraries are meeting the needs of young adults in their communities and distribute free copies of the new "Super Librarian" comic book in Spanish and English versions. The campaign will also include the launch of a YouTube contest calling teens to submit videos that mention their local library. Details of the campaign and contest for libraries will be posted on the njyac.org webpage this February.
We will be working with Diamond Comics to promote the entire event statewide and will be creating press pieces designed to give greater visibility to how our NJ libraries are meeting the needs of teens.
The Super librarian Comic Book campaign is headed by Kim Paone, Elizabeth Public Library; Sharon Rawlins, NJ Library for Blind and Handicapped with Cheryl O'Connor, INFOLINK; and Nancy Dowd, New Jersey State Library. Kim and Sharon will be in contact with the youth librarians via the YA listserv.
