The award is part of a grant for "Building the Multicultural, Multilingual New Jersey Library Staff," and covers tuition, fees, and provides a graduate assistant stipend for Fall 2007 through Fall 2009.
It is expected that the Ph.D. student would take 12 credits (4 courses) per semester for five semesters and work a maximum of 15 hours a week as a research assistant during those semesters. This allows completion of all degree requirements except for the dissertation.
The degree requires the completion of 84 credits: 18 credits of core requirements; 18 credits of course work in the student's program area; 24 credits of dissertation research; and a maximum of 24 credits of Master-level course work (which may be transferred from another institution).
Assuming the student has an MLS, this means that he/she would have the 84 credits by the end of 2009, and would be ready to complete the dissertation.
In addition to the grant funding, it may be possible to earn extra money for teaching in the summer session.
The fellowship application is available as a Microsoft Word document and in PDF format.
