Mary
Owen Borden Foundation
Grants for organizations located and working in Monmouth
and Mercer counties of New Jersey. Foundation's special
focus is on programs addressing the needs of economically
disadvantaged youth and their families. The website

Brady Foundation
The foundation has given general support grants to libraries
in New Jersey. Grants range from $1,000 to $30,000.

Geraldine
R. Dodge Foundation, Inc.
Of interest to libraries, the Foundation offers grants
to "increase access to a good education for those who
are underservered"; support for the arts in New Jersey;
and Local Projects that seek to improve life in Morris
County, New Jersey. The site provides detailed information
on its programs and application guidelines.
Bill
& Melinda Gates Foundation
Grants will provide access to information technology
to "every public library in the U.S. and Canada serving
low-income communities, as well as providing training
to library staff members in every public library." The
Library Program only accepts applications from individual
libraries within the State Partnership Program. At present,
New Jersey is not in this program.
Karma
Foundation
The Foundation has awarded grants to public and academic
libraries. Grants made to local organizations are restricted
to New Jersey, California and Wisconsin. Typically,
grants range from $500 to $25,000. The Foundation makes
grants in the following categories: operating expenses;
special projects and programs; capital needs; start-ups,
equipment and materials; and disaster relief. In August
2000, the Foundation announced a grant for New Jersey
public libraries entitled "Public Library Tipping Point
Grant". The website contains general grant guidelines
and the application for the Tipping Point Grant.
F.M. Kirby Foundation,
Inc.
Purpose: Support for community programs, historic preservation,
social services, conservation. Interests: Humanities;
historic preservation; art/cultural programs; youth
services. Geographic Area: New Jersey, Pennsylvania
and North Carolina. Provides support for: General/operaing
support; continuing support; building/renovation; equipment;

Kresge
Foundation The Foundation's Bricks and Mortar
grant program awards challenge grants for capital projects,
most often for construction or renovation of buildings,
but also for the purchase of major equipment and real
estate. A public library in northern New Jersey recently
received a challenge grant. The site contains an online
application form.
Lois Lenski Covey
Foundation, Inc. The foundation annually awards
grants to rural and urban public libraries serving at-risk
children. The grants range from $500 to $5,000. Successful
applicants have proposed purchases to update their collections
generally or to expand their holdings in special areas.
The Foundation welcomes applications from libraries
with real need and limited book budgets. An application

Libri
Foundation Grant
Libri Foundation is a nationwide non-profit organization
which donates new, quality, hardcover children's books
to small, rural public libraries in the United States
through its Books For Children program.
Nicholas Martini
Foundation
Purpose: Arts and humanities programs; programs in community
development and secondary and higher education. Interests:
