LSTA Grants by Congressional District
District 4

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is a federal agency that administers the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) by annually awarding grants to State Library agencies who distribute LSTA funds within their states. LSTA's priorities are to improve electronic linkages for libraries and to target services to persons having difficulty using a library. Each year the New Jersey State Library receives approximately $3.8 million in LSTA funding.

LSTA Grants Awarded in New Jersey: Congressional District 4

FY 2002

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Awareness Program (Library for the Blind & Handicapped). American Sign Language (ASL) Training for Library Staff $10,000. Advanced ASL classes which focused on expanding vocabulary specifically for the library environment. Courses were given in three libraries throughout the state.

FY 2001

Burlington County Library. Services to Special Populations. $10,000. ESL program to serve Portuguese community in Cinnaminson area with conversation classes, ESL PC, materials.

Ocean County Library, Lakewood Branch Library. Services to Special Populations. $10,000. After-school Homework Center operated by project staff also provides a classes to teach elementary school children Internet skills.

Trenton Public Library. Services to Special Populations. $10,000. Job skills program at Cadwalader Branch including PC, resume software and library resources.

FY 2000

Burlington County Library. Hub Library Network. $15,250. Serves as Hub Library providing public libraries in area with free Internet access and technical assistance.

Burlington County College Library. Services to People with Disabilities. $14,986. Upgraded CALL Lab with PCs and software for students with visual impairments.

Burlington County Library. Services to People with Disabilities. $14,165. Purchased adaptive technology and provided services and programs to persons with vision, hearing or learning disabilities.

Hamilton Township Public Library. Web Based Online Catalogs. $21,500. Purchased technology to promote statewide resource sharing of library materials.

Mercer County Community College Library. Services to People with Disabilities. $14,988. Purchased adaptive technology and provided services and programs to persons with vision, hearing or learning disabilities.

Ocean County Library. Services to Children and Young Adults. $10,000. After-school Homework Center and tutoring program at the Lakewood Branch Library.

FY 1999

Burlington County Library. Hub Library Network. $45,000. Serves as Hub Library providing public libraries in area with free Internet access and technical assistance.

Burlington County Library. Web Based Online Catalogs. $25,137. Purchased technology to promote statewide resource sharing of library materials.

FY 1998

Burlington County Library. Hub Library Network. $45,000. Serves as Hub Library providing public libraries in area with free Internet access and technical assistance.

FY 1997

Arthur Brisbane Child Treatment Center. Institutional Library Services. $10,000. Established or improved library services for persons in state institutions.

Burlington County Library. Services to Special Populations. $10,000. Presented workshop series on job hunting skills and purchased related library materials.

Lakewood Public Library. Services to Special Populations. $10,000. Purchased Spanish language materials for Hispanic community.

Trenton Public Library. Services to Special Populations. $10,000. Purchased reading materials for adults with limited literacy skills.

District 4 Libraries. Internet Access PCs. $4,875. The following two libraries were awarded contracts to purchase Internet access PCs: Brielle, Lakewood.
