Foundation Grants for Preservation in Libraries,
Archives, and Museums
The
Library of Congress and the Foundation Center, in a joint
partnership, have recently compiled a new Web-based fundraising
guide to help the preservation community save the nation's
millions of at-risk artifacts for future generations.
National Endowment for the Humanities Preservation
Assistance Grants for Smaller Institutions Preservation
Assistance grants help small and mid-sized institutions
such as libraries, museums, historical societies,
archival repositories, town and county records offices,
and colleges improve their ability to preserve and
care for their humanities collections. Awards
of up to $5,000 support preservation related collection
assessments, consultations, and workshops, and institutional
and collaborative disaster and emergency planning.
CAPES: Caucus Archival Projects Evaluation
Service
A
special program of the NJ Caucus of the Mid-Atlantic
Region Archives Conference (MARAC), made possible
by a grant from the NJ Historical Commission, Department
of State. Provides small local libraries, archives,
historical societies, agencies, and other non-profit
private organizations with assistance from professional
archivists in evaluating, organizing, and preserving
their archival materials. The records under
consideration must relate to the history of New Jersey.

and Records Disaster Recovery Triage (Records DIRECT)
Grant Programs for County and municipal governments: PARIS
grants fund strategic advancements to build and improve
the infrastructure of public records administration
for County and municipal government and archives
and records programs statewide.
Records Direct
Grants
will provide direct, immediate emergency management
assistance to disaster-stricken County and municipal
government agencies to recover vital, permanent or
archival public records damaged by fire, water, and
other man-made or natural phenomena. Designed
to avert the loss of irreplaceable public records
during the critical hours and days following a disaster,
this program will streamline the application process
to get emergency funding where it is needed in the
shortest possible time.
New Jersey Office of Emergency
Management (NJOEM)
Administers
funding for hazard mitigation and disaster recovery.
New Jersey Council for the
Humanities
NJCH,
a nonprofit organization, was established in 1973
as the state partner of the National Endowment for
the Humanities. A grant
program administered by NJCH and funded
by the National Endowment for the Humanities serves
as a catalyst for public humanities programs and
provides financial support for other nonprofit organizations'
special projects.
New Jersey Historical Commission
The
mission of the New Jersey Historical Commission is
to enrich the lives of the public by preserving the
historical record and advancing interest in and awareness
of New Jersey's past. NJHC offers a variety of
different types of grants. It also offers prizes
and a free archival evaluation service called Caucus
Archival Projects Evaluation Service or CAPES.
Beyond Words
Dollar General in collaboration with the ALA, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), and the National Education Association (NEA) is sponsoring a school library disaster relief fund for public school libraries in the states served by Dollar General. The fund will provide grants to public schools whose school library program has been affected by a disaster. Grants are to replace or supplement books, media, and/or library equipment in the school library setting.
