State Capitol Universe
  Search for legislation, regulations, state legislatures, and issues in the news.  Includes newspapers of record for various states.

Statistical Universe
  Includes statistical resources from "Statistical Reference Index." These are   both state publications and publications about state affairs.

The Council of State Governments Home Page
Provides access to their publications and services. Includes links to state home pages and election results. Their STARS database containing studies and surveys of state programs is available free to registered state officials and staff or by subscription.
EconData.Net
Guide to regional economic activity on the Web.  Links to over 400 socioeconomic data sources arranged by subject and provider.  Includes acccess tools to multiple data series, statistical compendia, search engines, regional analyses, socioeconomic forecasts, and mapping resources and more.
FirstGov
Links to state and territorial home pages; also provides subject access to services and information.
NACo
The National Association of Counties maintains a comprehensive database of information on counties, including a listing of county officials and links to nationwide county statistics and county policies, codes, ordinances and model programs.
New Federalism, Assessing the
Research project from the Urban Institute including reports and statistics analyzing the devolution of responsibility for social programs from the federal government to the states, focusing primarily on health care, income security, job training, and social services.
Northeast Midwest Institute
Good compendia site providing selected economic statistics, policy studies and  links to other federal and state sources within their region.
State and Local Government on the Net
Piper Resources guide to state, county, city and government sites as well as government associations.   Each cover page indexes several web sites for that government.  Includes key word searching.

Library of Congress site including meta-indexes for state and local government information.
State Data Centers
Census Bureau sponsored consortium of agencies from 50 states providing Census Bureau and state statistical data.
