Technology Hint for Newbies

Monday, April 30th, 2007

New Jersey State Library staff members attended the recent Computers in Libraries conference in Arlington, Virginia.  Keynote speaker Lee Rainie, from the Pew Internet and Life Project, opened the conference with a discussion about Web 2.0. There were numerous follow-up programs on Web 2.0. with an entire conference track devoted to social networking and collaboration tools.  One of the most interesting sessions was about new tools and gadgets, including a “rear-view mirror you can attach to your computer. Mary Ellen Bates gave a fast-paced, high-powered look at “30 Search Tips.  New Jersey’s own Janie Hermann and Robert Keith from Princeton Public Library closed the conference with a session on Tech Freebies and Program Ideas.  There were many sessions on blogging and RSS feeds.  If you are interested in using RSS feeds but not quite sure how to do so, watch this very quick and simple explanation of just what an RSS feed really is.  It’s from a great site called “The Common Craft Show, all about “making technology easy to understand.
