Can a Library transform a community? What kind of vision, planning and costs go into transforming libraries into places that transform communities? These questions, as well as ideas leading to answers, will be discussed by speakers who know what goes into making the library a place that has the potential to transform a community.

Speakers

Carol Nersinger, Director, East Brunswick Public Library

Carol Nersinger has led public libraries large and small, urban and suburban, during her distinguished career. As Director of the Library Development Bureau at the New Jersey State Library she oversaw grants and consultants. Prior to her work with the State Library she served as executive director of the Highlands Regional Library Cooperative.

Cynthia Nikitin, Vice President For Public Buildings and Downtowns Project for Public Spaces

Cynthia Nikitin has earned a reputation as a persuasive advocate for “Placemaking” as an approach to city planning and urban design. As a manager of numerous large-scale and complex projects during her fifteen years with Project for Public Spaces, Inc., she has striven to serve as a compelling voice in support of more sustainable towns and cities nation-wide.

Jeffery Scherer, FAIA

Jeffrey A. Scherer, is a principal in the firm of Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle, Ltd. located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mr. Scherer has focused his work on public, academic and private libraries and innovative corporate headquarters. He is the past President of AIA Minnesota, the Library Foundation of Hennepin County and currently serves on the Americans for Libraries Council in New York.
