Ina Garten is a very popular cookbook author and TV personality. Her cookbooks are written for the home cook using ingredients that are available in supermarkets and at local farm stands. Beautiful photographs showing finished recipes are a nice feature in her books.

Our first posting to the State Library Information Center’s Book Blog will highlight the National Book Award winner for nonfiction, 2012, Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity by Katherine Boo. Beautiful Forevers refers to advertising on a wall near the Mumbai International Airport. A slum or undercity called Annawadi lies behind the wall. Ms. Boo tells the stories of several residents and their families as they try to earn a living in this Indian undercity.
