Did you know that according to the National Cancer Institute, about 39% of Americans will develop some form of cancer in their lifetime and that over 600,000 Americans are expected to die from cancer this year? Cancer can take make many forms with vary degrees of severity and survival rates. However, as cancer continues to grow, so have the treatment options. Please join Dr. Kristina Zarkua, Medical Director of Hematology/Oncology at Capital Health as she details the types, causes, and treatments for a variety of cancer; the earlier cancer is detected, the better chance there is to overcome it!
Dr. Kristina Zarkua is the Medical Director of Hematology/Oncology Department at Capital Health. She completed her fellowship training in hematology and oncology at the Medical College of Georgia/Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia. After receiving her medical degree from First Moscow State Medical University in Moscow, Russia, she completed her residency in internal medicine at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, New Jersey, where she later served as chief resident and junior faculty member. Dr. Zarkua is board certified in internal medicine. Her clinical focus in on research and health equity projects. She is a member of the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology, as well as the author of multiple abstracts. In her free time, Dr. Zarkua enjoys theater and music, spending time with family, and traveling.
