In 2026, as the nation marks 250 years since the Revolution, our exhibition will explore how New Jersey helped shape, and was shaped by, the fight for liberty. Through the evolution of its constitutions, discover how the state balanced local needs with national ideals and how the meaning of democracy continues to define both New Jersey and you.

One Library, Many Stories
August 2026 – January 2027
State Library staff have curated themed collection items that tell a story within each Constitutional era. The New Jersey State Library has existed since 1796, 20 years after our first State Constitution was ratified on July 2, 1776. Our collections capture the social, political, and legal conditions of each of the three state Constitutional eras.

Library of Congress Card Catalog Kiosk
April 2026 – April 2027
The New Jersey Center for the Book (NJCB), located at Rutgers School of Communication and Information, has temporarily loaned a card catalog kiosk given to the NJCB by the Library of Congress to be displayed at the NJ State Library for a one-year period, beginning April 2026.
