Requesting Items

Home How Can We Help? Requesting Items

The NJ State Library (NJSL) offers a variety of resources to assist users in accessing and requesting items from its collections.

By utilizing tools such as the Library Catalog, databases, NJSL Discovery, NJSL Digital Collections, and Electronic Journals, patrons can efficiently locate and request materials to support their research and informational needs.

Using Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad)

Materials not available in our collections or databases can be requested from another library using the interlibrary loan service, ILLiad.

ILLiad is available to State employees and Thomas Edison State University (TESU) staff, students and mentors with an NJSL borrower’s card.

Using Our Catalog

Our online catalog can be searched without a library card and contains records for:

Card holders can log in to their library account and use the Request Item link to reserve materials from circulating collections. Contact us if you have any questions.

Using Discovery and Databases

State employees and TESU cardholders can login to NJSL Discovery Search to search and receive remote access to journal articles.

NJSL Discovery includes articles available in EBSCOhost and other key databases including NewsBank, Accessible Archives, and HeinOnline.

Some content can only be accessed by searching directly in one of our databases (including ProQuest, Mergent, and Wolters Kluwer). TESU affiliates can access ProQuest Central using MyEdison.

Talking Books and Braille Center

Members of the NJSL Talking Book and Braille Center (TBBC) can request materials from TBBC’s collection.

For more information on services for those with a physical impairment, a reading disability, or a visual impairment please visit our TBBC page, or contact below.

TBBC is a library that provides no-cost, home-delivered services, on behalf of the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled to children, teens and adults in New Jersey who have difficulty reading standard print or trouble holding a book.
