Children & Youth Librarians “Keepin’ It Fresh” at Annual Forum

The 28th Annual Youth Services Forum, “Keepin’ It Fresh,” sponsored by the NJ Library Association, NJ State Library and NJ Association of School Librarians, was held on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, Manalapan. Keynote address was given by children’s book author Cheryl B. Filipak (Saving Streak: A Sea World Rescue Story), who took the audience of over 160 children and young adult librarians back to the story times of their youth. She did a book signing after her session.

During the Spark Talks! Jeff Cupo, discussed TAB Summits and Sandi Cronce talked about Summer Lunch Programs.

Billed as a day of hot topics and issues in library services for children and young adults, those hot topics included: Why it’s OK to Leave Your Job and Change it Up; S.T.E.A.M. Storytime Surprise; Summer Teen Volunteers; Design on a Dime; Cooking up Culinary Literacy; and Buzzwords.  After lunch, Spark Talks! gave the audience five minute briefings on hot ideas: Maker Labs; Summer Lunch Programs; TAB (Teen Advisory Boards) Summits; Operation Clean Slate (eliminates overdue fines); and Maker Kits.
