Literacy Boot Camp 2018

New Jersey State Librarian Mary Chute welcomes students to the 2018 Literacy Boot Camp.

Following up on the success of the inaugural Literacy Boot Camp in 2015, the New Jersey State Library, in partnership with the Plainfield Public Library, kicked off its second Literacy Boot Camp on March 27, 2018, with 16 students from all over the state in attendance.

The workshops are held bi-weekly on Tuesdays through May 22 at the Plainfield Public Library, 800 Park Ave., Plainfield, and consists of five, half-day, in-person workshops that includes structured, hands-on learning and sharing of New Jersey libraries’ best practices in the field of adult literacy.

The primary goal for NJSL Literacy Boot Camp is to provide New Jersey librarians and library staff with skills and tools necessary to develop library-based adult literacy programs to meet the needs of their communities. Course elements include community needs assessment, data use for planning, curriculum design, recruiting and training tutors, advertising and management.
