The 8th Annual TBBC Golf Classic took place on Tuesday,  June 11, 2019, at the Bedens Brooks Club in Skillman NJ. It started off as a rainy day,  however the weather broke just in time for tee off, with plenty of sunshine leaving the course in pristine condition.

Over 40 golfers, including those with visual impairments, enjoyed a day of networking and golf followed by a delicious Chef’s Buffet Lunch. Contests included the Putting Contest and Closest to the Pin.  All proceeds were donated in support of the NJ State Library Talking Book and Braille Center.

Vito DeSantis, U.S. Army veteran of Robbinsville, participates in the event annually. DeSantis joined the U.S. Army in 1973. The captain was forced out of his planned career in the military by retinitis pigmentosa in 1984.  “I started losing my vision in 1977, so was essentially blind during the last seven years of my career,” he said.    Supporting the services of the TBBC is important to the former executive director of the NJ Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired. “Reading literature is important if someone is to be a full partner in our society,” he said. “TBBC is one more outlet for our print disabled citizens – providing information to them.”
