Planning for Innovation in Today’s Libraries 

The 11th New Jersey State Library Trustee Institute will be held on October 27, 2018 at the National Conference Center Holiday Inn, 299 Monmouth Street, East Windsor, NJ 08520. Registration is limited to 200 participants. One trustee from each library may attend for free. Additional library trustees/commissioners are welcome to attend at a cost of $95 each. Priority registration will be given to trustees. 

The keynote will be given by Annie Norman, State Librarian of Delaware, and Diana Brown, Community Services Manager of New Castle County. The keynote will discuss the importance of the Master Planning process for library capital projects and how it has facilitated state funding of libraries in Delaware. They will also discuss the benefits of working collaboratively across local government jurisdictions, highlighting Delaware’s newest library, the 43,000 sq. ft. RT9 Library and Innovation Center which was built to provide services and inspire engagement in a community long considered to be underserved.

The plenary session on Library and Local Government Law – A Primer and will be given by Michael Cerone, Esq. This presentation will review various aspects of library law including organization, powers, and funding as well as the confidentiality of library records. It will also review Open Public Meetings Act, Local Public Contracts Law, Open Public Records Act, Civil Service, and FMLA.

The registration deadline is October 12, 2018. No refunds will be given after this date! All invoices are submitted directly to your library. Your library will be billed should your trustee register for this event and then not attend. Cancellations are only accepted by email. 

Room accommodations for the evening of October 26, 2018 are limited, and must be made on your own through the Holiday Inn East Windsor for a special rate of $94.00 plus tax. The block code is NJL.
