COVID-19 Update – State Library buildings are closed

The NJ State Library is closed for walk-in service until further notice.In alignment with the Governor’s directives, the state’s library buildings are closed. The New Jersey State Library is adhering to these restrictions and is closed for walk-in service until further notice.

We will continue to remain operational providing remote services. At this time, library services are available by phone, email, or by accessing our many online collections and resources through our website.

Our Library Development Bureau and IT Department are fully staffed and will continue to provide service to the libraries in the state.

In addition:

  • For reference or research service, contact the State Library by email at  For legal research email
  • All onsite classes and programs are suspended.
  • Items to be returned to the State Library should be held until the library reopens. Please do not use the library book drop
  • Requests for renewals can be submitted to As always, there are no fines for overdue books.
