New Jersey State Librarian Mary Chute has announced that Maria Baratta has been named the State Library’s new Associate Director of the State Library Information Center (SLIC). Baratta brings extensive experience in library administration to the position. Much of her career has been in special subject libraries including 13 years as Library Manager of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Information Resource Center and eight years as the Chief of Research Services with the New Jersey Attorney General’s Library.
Baratta is no stranger to the NJ State Library (NJSL), having served as Associate Director of the New Jersey State Library Talking Book & Braille Center from 2008-2015 where she oversaw readers’ advisory, circulation and equipment management. Most recently, she was the Collection Management Director at the Bucks County Free Library in Doylestown, PA, supervising selection and technical processing of print and e-book collections, interlibrary loan and online database services. In her new role at NJSL, she will be managing reference services.
The Yardley, PA, resident earned her bachelor’s degree from Lafayette College, Easton, PA, and her Master’s in Library Science from Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA. She holds professional librarian certificates in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
