Home Registration is Now Open for Spring LEAP Classes

The Library Equal Access Program (LEAP)

The LEAP program will begin again this spring with classes being offered at several public libraries. LEAP is a series of free classes sponsored by the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired. These classes are for individuals aged 55 and older who have a loss in vision. The classes will teach you about accessibility tools available on iPads, such as Siri and VoiceOver.

The next round of classes will include an iPad course for beginners, and an iPad course for intermediate users. Classes are free and devices are available for students to use in class. Classes are starting soon at the Talking Book and Braille Center in Trenton. Registration is required.

LEAP offers two different classes:

iPad Beginner Class

The iPad Beginner Class covers basic functions of iPads. It also introduces accessibility features, including VoiceOver and Siri voice commands.

Beginner classes are once a week, for six weeks.

iPad Intermediate Class

The iPad Intermediate Class builds upon the skills learned in the Beginner Class to give students an even better understanding of the advanced accessibility features available to them. While the Intermediate Class builds upon the Basic Class, taking the Basic class as a prerequisite is not required.

Intermediate classes are once a week, for four weeks.
