The Research Library provides services to meet the diverse needs of its patrons, including state government employees, Thomas Edison State University (TESU), New Jersey libraries, and the general public including TESU graduates.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) information is available within each section for the specific audience.


Do you have a NJ State Library Card?

Whether you’re a state employee, a researcher, a student of Thomas Edison State University (TESU), or a New Jersey resident, a library card not only grants you access to an extensive collection of books, databases, and digital resources but also provides numerous other benefits.

A NJ State Library Card is required to borrow from collections and accessing content.

Research Library: Services for State Government

New Jersey state employees in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches can register for a State Library card to:

  • Borrow materials from the NJ State Library
  • Access a wide range of databases and electronic journals remotely
  • Request materials through interlibrary loan
  • Get research support from professional librarians

Research Library: Services for Thomas Edison State University

TESU students, faculty, and mentors can register for a State Library card to:

  • Borrow materials from NJSL
  • Access scholarly databases, eBooks, and digital collections remotely
  • Use interlibrary loan services through ILLiad
  • Get research help from NJSL librarians and use specialized research guides

NJSL supports libraries statewide with services that enhance operations and public access, including:
