Download a Book or Magazine

TBBC provides access to downloadable Audiobooks, Audio Magazines, and Braille files through the Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) service. BARD is offered by the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, Library of Congress. See attachment below for BARD download instructions.

  • Registered TBBC members may apply for BARD.  Not a TBBC member?  Apply with TBBC.
  • If you are a TBBC member, but not registered for BARD, apply online for BARD.
  • If you are registered with both TBBC and with BARD, download an audiobook or magazine using BARD.
  • BARD Mobile App: If you are registered for BARD and have an Apple or Android device, you can use the BARD Mobile app! Find more info on BARD Mobile here.
  • Need help downloading from BARD? You can also call TBBC at 800-792-8322. We are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
  • NOTE: TBBC provides audiobooks and access to BARD books that are produced by NLS.  The NLS files will only play on authorized devices because of copyright issues.  Find a list of NLS-authorized devices.

Find Audio National and New Jersey Newspapers and Magazines

Newsline, an accessible national audio news service from the National Federation of the Blind, is available to TBBC members.

You can access Newsline by telephone or through the Internet. To register for Newsline, call TBBC’s toll-free number at 1-800-792-8322.

Newsline for New Jersey residents is funded by the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NJCBVI).


 Get an Audiobook Player

Those registered with TBBC are eligible to receive a free, long-term loan of the digital audiobook player produced by the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS). If you are registered with TBBC and want a player or would like to change to a different model of the player, call us toll-free at 1-800-792-8322. Watch/listen to an audio-described video demo of the standard model of the audiobook player.

Two models of the audiobook player are available:

  • Standard Model: with basic controls for play/stop, rewind, fast forward and simple up and down buttons to control volume, speed, and tone of voice. It also provides a sleep button.
  • Advanced Model: in addition to the features on the basic model, the advanced model has additional controls for bookmarking and navigating through chapters.
