Our Public Library Partners

Home The Talking Book and Braille Center Our Public Library Partners

Public Libraries are at the heart of our New Jersey communities.

We know that the caregivers, loved ones, and neighbors of those who use our services visit public libraries throughout the State.

To increase the visibility of the services of the New Jersey State Library Talking Book and Braille Center (TBBC) in our communities, we partner with fellow public libraries in several ways:

  • Public libraries may apply for an account as an institution. This means that they can have audiobook players, and a collection of audiobooks and braille books at their libraries to demonstrate to patrons.  Please email TBBC at tbbc@njstatelib.org for more information.
  • For librarians, we created a web page to help librarians bring TBBC’s services to their community.
  • Below is a list of public libraries in New Jersey that have chosen to have accounts with TBBC and that have been trained on our services.
  • The BARD Public Library Pilot Project grants institutional access to the Braille and Audio Reading Downloading site (BARD). BARD is a service offered by the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, Library of Congress. This access allows trained public libraries to provide community-based assistance to download audiobooks and audio magazines for TBBC members. A participating library is marked as a “BARD Pilot” below. If you are interested in becoming a BARD Pilot Library, please contact Liz Kelly at lkelly@njstatelib.org.
  • We are also partnering with public libraries on the Library Equal Access Program (LEAP), a program sponsored by the NJ Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBVI) in partnership with TBBC and Advancing Opportunities, a leader in assistive technology training. Assistive technology learning centers have been created at the LEAP libraries to offer free training on computers and iPads that magnify and speak. LEAP is for anyone 55 and older with a change of vision. LEAP libraries are noted below as “LEAP.”
