Member libraries can borrow books and other materials, and obtain photocopies from participating New Jersey libraries. An agreement with OCLC also allows JerseyCat members to request items from out-of-state libraries if what they need is not available in New Jersey.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if JerseyCat doesn’t respond when I attempt to log in?

Try clearing your browser’s cache (history, cookies, temporary files, etc). Close the browser, then reopen.

Can I change the default passwords?

Yes. Once you are logged into the Admin Account, you can change the default passwords. You can also set up individual accounts for staff with unique user names, passwords, and permissions.

Is there a charge for using JerseyCat?

There is no charge for using JerseyCat. However libraries must pay a fee for delivery service.

Can we get books from out of state through JerseyCat?

Yes. Libraries can opt to request books from out of state if the request is not filled by JerseyCat libraries.

Is there a charge for using the out of state option?

Most items can be borrowed at no charge. However, libraries must pay return postage.

What do you mean, “most items?”

Medical libraries and some university libraries do charge a fee for loans. However, you are notified if there is a charge and asked if your patron will authorize payment. No one is charged without authorization.

Can we renew JerseyCat items?

Individual libraries can set their own renewal policies. Most allow renewals for 28 days.

Can we request ebooks, or other electronic versions of books?

Sorry, no. JerseyCat is for hard copies of books only.

Can we request multiple copies of a title?

Yes. Select the bib record for the book you are requesting. You will see an option for multi copy on the left side of the screen, under the Request This Item tab. Select multi copy – on the next screen you will be able to enter the number of copies needed.

Who is responsible if a book goes missing?

The borrowing library is responsible from the time the title leaves the lending library until it is safely returned.

Who do we contact if we have questions, or if there is a problem with JerseyCat?

jerseycat-help@njstatelib.org

Is there a way for me to get a real understanding of the JerseyCat system?

Of course. There is a comprehensive users manual for JerseyCat easily accessed from the Support Tab on the JerseyCat Staff Dashboard page.
