Our Public Library Partners

Home The Talking Book and Braille Center Our Public Library Partners

Public Libraries are at the heart of our New Jersey communities.

We know that the caregivers, loved ones, and neighbors of those who use our services visit public libraries throughout the State.

I wanted to thank you and your associates for this program. It truly is a miracle gift to persons who cannot see. With these books, my father has a full life and something to look forward to and occupy his mind, each day – as opposed to listening to the same 10 minutes of news on the radio – all day. This is the best use of our tax dollars ever!

TBBC Patron Testimonials

To increase the visibility of the services of the NJ State Library Talking Book and Braille Center (TBBC) in our communities, we partner with fellow public libraries in several ways:

Apply for Services

Places that serve NJ residents who meet our eligibility criteria, including public libraries, may apply for an account as an institution.

Dedicated Resources for Library Staff

TBBC offers a valuable, no-cost service that your library can bring to your community.

Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD)

BARD, the Braille and Audio Reading Download service, offers downloadable books and magazines for patrons who are unable to read standard print due to a visual, print, or physical disability. Offered by the TBBC and the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS), Library of Congress.

The BARD Public Library Pilot Project granted institutional access to the BARD site. This access allowed trained public libraries to provide community-based assistance to download audiobooks and audio magazines for TBBC members.

Library Equal Access Program (LEAP)

LEAP offers free technology courses for individuals aged 55 and above, who have some level of vision loss, to teach them how to use accessibility features available on Apple iPad and iPhone devices.
