New Jersey Government Publications State of New Jersey Depository Library Logo

Since 1875 the NJ State Library (NJSL) has been the primary depository library for official publications of state government that are intended for public distribution.

We are governed by N.J.S.A 52:14-25.1.

  1. All departments and agencies, commissions etc. submit a digital copy of their publications to the New Jersey State Library; and
  2. Submit a paper print-out of the publication if it exists only digitally OR submit six paper copies if print copies are available.
  3. Assign one person within the department to act as a liaison to the State Library.

What is a Publication?

State publications are documents produced for the public by New Jersey State agencies, including reports, directories, statistical compendiums, bibliographies, newsletters, bulletins, state plans, brochures, periodicals, committee minutes, transcripts of public/legislative hearings, maps, executive orders, press releases, and similar files.

Internal and administrative documents (records) are not considered publications; we do not collect letters, emails, internal memos, or administrative or training materials used only within a department or agency.

How to Submit Your Agency’s Publications

  1. Email copies of digital publications to njdocs@njstatelib.org.  Please include the URL, the title and publication date.
  2. Please remember to send us a paper print-out of your document if it exists as a digital document only.
