LCBA Feature: Monmouth County Library

The Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan proudly celebrated its grand reopening in September 2024, welcoming hundreds of residents to enjoy the newly renovated facility. The celebration marked the completion of a major interior renovation project, reinforcing the Library’s commitment to serving as a modern, inclusive, and welcoming space for all.

Originally constructed in 1987 and previously expanded in 2000, the Library’s latest renovation was a $4.5 million project made possible through a $1.9 million New Jersey Library Construction Act grant, with matching funds procured through a capital improvement bond ordinance requested and approved by the Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners.

The renovation focused on modernizing key areas of the Library to better serve the evolving needs of the community. Key project highlights included:

Upgrades to flooring, ceilings, energy-efficient lighting and interior painting for a more welcoming and modern look
Enhanced electrical infrastructure, including power outlets at nearly every seat in the main reading room
Expanded and improved quiet study and collaborative workspaces
Renovation of public meeting rooms, including new moveable walls, screens, acoustic treatments, and flooring
Enhanced building security with a new public address system
Restroom upgrades with energy-efficient fixtures
Accessibility upgrades, including improved ADA compliance in the lower program gallery

These improvements ensure the Library will remain a cornerstone of community engagement, learning, and accessibility well into the future.

In addition to the Headquarters location, Monmouth County Library has branch locations in Allentown, Atlantic Highlands, Colts Neck, Hazlet, Holmdel, Howell, Marlboro, Oceanport, Ocean Township, Shrewsbury, Wall Township and West Long Branch.
