Diabetes testing supplies on a table

Did you know that over 38 million Americans suffer from some form of Diabetes? That is more than 1 in 10 people in the United States along. In celebration of Diabetes Awareness Month, please join us as Registered Nurses LaShanta Dawkins and Amanda Knowles break down the basics of Diabetes in simple terms. They will discuss Prediabetes, how Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes differ, and what signs to look for. You’ll also learn small, but meaningful changes that can make a big difference in preventing or managing diabetes.

LaShanta Dawkins BSN, RN, CDCES, has been a nurse for nine years and a proud member of the Capital Health team for the past seven and a half years, She has spent the last three years diving deep into diabetes education and loving every minute of helping others manage their health. When she’s off the clock, you can usually find her cheering on the Eagles (loudly!) or getting lost in a good book and her latest junk journaling project.

Amanda Knowles BSN, RN, has been a nurse for seven and a half years and a new member of the Capital Health Diabetes Education Department. With a personal history of having Type 1 Diabetes for twenty four years, she is passionate about empowering the diabetes community in finding ways to manage their diabetes with confidence and ease. When she’s off the clock, you can find her snuggled up with my two cats reading a thriller book or painting a paint by numbers.
