Adult Services

The Adult Services Specialist supports library initiatives based on NJSL priorities and community needs.
Among the strategies used to strengthen library services are professional development, communities of practice, pilot programs, and grant opportunities. NJSL also works collaboratively with partners in New Jersey and nationally to leverage library resources and grow capacity for libraries to better serve their patrons.

Diversity and Literacy Projects / Initiatives
NJSL + Partners Literacy Project
NJSL + Partners Literacy Project enhanced digital literacy and workforce readiness across the state. By establishing a network of “hub” and “spoke” libraries, the program provided standardized training and certification to assist individuals in developing essential digital skills.
Social Work Informed Library Services in NJ (SWILIBS-NJ)
NJSL’s SWILIBS-NJ pilot program aims to enhance public libraries’ capacity to provide essential social services. By integrating social work interns into library settings, the initiative seeks to address community needs more effectively.
This collaboration leverages the strengths of both library professionals and social workers to make a meaningful difference in the lives of New Jersey residents.
Teaching Information Literacy
NJSL, in collaboration with in partnership with the New Jersey Association of School Librarians, LibraryLinkNJ: the New Jersey Library Cooperative, and the New Jersey Department of Education, is leading a statewide initiative to advance information literacy.
This effort includes developing standards, instructional frameworks, professional development, and resources to support educators and librarians across K–12 and beyond.
Continuing Education (CE) Training

NJSL offers a variety of CE Training opportunities for New Jersey librarians, library support staff, and trustees.
Features both NJSL-created and licensed content on a broad range of topics designed to help you fulfill your responsibilities and to grow professionally.

Youth Services

Youth Services supports certified librarians and library staff who work with youth from ages 0 – 18.
The unit administers award programs, coordinates the annual Statewide Summer Reading Program, provides continuing education opportunities, and serves as a liaison to local, regional, and statewide organizations working with youth through collaborative partnerships.
